One of the things that a master chef finds passion in the kitchen is the room for creativity and enjoying these unique experiences.  It is an opportunity that they have to blend flavors, create different styles and stimulate the senses of those who are a lover of good food.  We can see these features strongly reflected in restaurants devoted to tapas.  And one of these restaurants that is devoted to this is Soda, Estudio de Cocina (Soda, Kitchen Studio), located in the vicinity of Miramar.

Soda, Estudio de Cocina is a little and curious restaurant that has been operating since 2012 and it is dedicated to offering tapas with an international fusion cuisine.  Tapas are perfect for sharing therefore, it is ideal to taste several items on the menu.  The name Soda is in honor of the band Soda Stereo, which the chef and co-owner of the restaurant, Hector Rosa, is a fan of. So its décor is urban, where several artists draw their works using chalk, acrylic and other methods.

The restaurant features classic drinks like the original mojito, and more exotic drinks like the mojito with fresh fruits or the Hot Mama Piñarita; which containes tequila, pineapple and peppers.  They also have a small selection of wines and around 18 types of beer; among them are the Medal, Singah, Brooklyn, Hofbräu, Point Coast and UFO.

img_4906As for the food, the menu changes every three months, incorporating different culinary influences.  At the moment, the restaurant is being influenced by the French cuisine, offering on their menu dishes like “Coquille Saint Jacques”, which contains scallops with pork and honey; “Magret”, which is duck breast with mixed greens, string beans tomato and mustard vinaigrette; “Le Espadon”, a swordfish with gratin potatoes; and the famous “Champignon dans le cognac Steak Tips”, which is a dish that takes chunks of steak in a sauce of marianos mushroom and cognac.  I must say that the latter is an exquisite dish.  The fillet pieces are cooked to perfection and come in a sauce prepared from mushrooms with a touch of cognac, which gives a delicious touch.  It is a divine dish that goes well with the mamposteado rice with plantains and a fried egg on top of the rice; which is one of the classic Puerto Rican dishes in its menu.

Other local traditional dishes that you can find on the menu are the croquettes stuffed with rice and cornbeef; ribs with BBQ Sauce and cabbage, and, their star dish, the eggroll stuffed with mamposteado rice and steak.  The latter is an amazing dish that takes rice and the steak, and wrap it in an eggroll, becoming a main dish in their tapas menu.  With their sweet chili sauce it can make you eager to ask for more!

To conclude this feast of scrumptious food, Soda offers you three choices of desserts: two classics (flan and carrot cake), and the most popular one, Donut Pudding.  The Donut img_4917Pudding is an interesting dessert that is prepared by melting and mixing the donuts with vanilla and other secret ingredients of the restaurant, and it is served with a ball of vanilla ice cream.  Just thinking about it makes us salivate.
